Potsdam gridmen run past Tupper Lake

TUPPER LAKE - The Potsdam Central varsity football team pulled away to a 52-20 NAC win on the road over Tupper Lake on Friday.

Junior Oden Robertson sparked the winning offense going 154 yards on 13 carries. Senior Adam Lewis also carried the ball 13 times for another 100 yards while junior quarterback Will Coleman had 65 yards on four carries and completed two of five passes for 19 yards including a 16-yard strike to Shawn Clark.

Defensively for the Sandstoners, who built a 30-6 halftime lead, Jacob Woods notched six tackles while Kyle Weems and David Adams each logged five. Josh Locey posted the lone interception of the game.

“The kids played well,” noted coach Jim Kirka after the Sandstoners improved to 2-0 heading into an early season showdown at home next Friday night against defending league and sectional champion Franklin Academy. “We came right out and set the tone early on both sides of the ball. Our runningbacks ran wel and ran hard and our defense played tough.”
