Samuel W. Meacham


DICKINSON CENTER — Samuel Washington Meacham, 83, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012at the St. Regis Nursing Home.

Samuel was born August 16, 1929 in East Dickinson, the son of the late Leon and Hazel (Wood) Meacham.Samuel was an Army veteranwho proudly serviced his country, being honorably discharged September 11, 1956.He married Beverly M. Smith on August 1, 1956; together they began their family of two sons and four daughters, one of whom, Donna D. Meacham, predeceased him.

At one time he worked for Alcoa, however his skill as a mechanic led him to work for himself in the Dickinson Center area at Meacham’s Garage on his own property. He was proprietor at that location for 62 years. Sam also grew and sold strawberries, potatoes and other produce. He enjoyed gathering sap and makingand selling maple syrup.

Sam is survived by his wife Beverly; his children, Kevin S. Meacham of Malone, Jacqueline A. (Tracy) Donie of Massena, Eric D. Meacham of Dickinson Center, Jennifer A. (Corey) Aiken of Chateaugay, Dawn E. (Jay) Russell of Fort Drum, and Laura (Bernie) Brown of Constable; 18 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.Also surviving him are his siblings, Carlyle (Donna) Meacham of Illinois, Leon (Betty) Meacham of Ohio, Hazel (Judd) LaMountain of Dickinson Center, Pearl Meacham Baker of Kentucky, and Desmond (Diane) of Pine Island, N.Y.

Friends may call Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

Funeral services honoring the life of Sam will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Rt. 11B West Bangor, NY.

Memorial Contributions in honor of Sam can be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Route 11B, West Bangor, N.Y.
