LOUISVILLE - The town board here is looking for volunteers from the community to fill two vacancies they have on boards within in the town.
Those vacancies include a five-year term on the assessment review board.
This is a very important position, Town Supervisor Larry R. Legault said.
Mr. Legault explained theres not much of a time commitment to the position as the board only meets once a year, but when they do meet their job is an important one.
He explained that after citizens receive their assessment each year they have an opportunity to meet with Assessor David Cassort. Mr. Cassort at that time may elect to lower the complainants assessment or leave if the same.
If they dont like the response they get from Dave, they can go before the assessment review board.
Mr. Legault explained the five members of that board would then listen to the complainants argument and decide whether or not to lower their assessment.
The board is also looking for someone to fill a vacancy they have for a three-year term on its recreation commission.
Board member Daniel OKeefe, who serves as the boards liaison with the committee, said theres not a lot that goes into serving on that board.
They only meet once or twice a year, he said.
Mr. OKeefe said the committees main responsibility each year is reviewing applications for the summer recreation counselors.
Its mainly for picking the kids to work with Judy, he said, referring to Recreation Director Judy A. Porter.
People interested in serving on either committee must be residents of Louisville.
If interested, please call Town Clerk Joanne Cameron at 769-0457.
