RAYMONDVILLE - The Raymondville Golf and Country Club spent the last two weekends crowning its 25th Annual Championship Tournament and helping to raise money for a good cause with its ninth annual Play for the Cure Tournament.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday, August 26, Club champions were crowned in three mens flights and a womens flight. Louie LaRose of Massena captured the Flight A championship with a low net score of 61. Jay Shampine and Frank Ashley tied for second at 66.
In Flight B, Earl Aldridge of Massena posted the winning low net score of 62. Mike Moore and Joe Charland finished tied for second with 68s.
Darrell LaMay of Massena emerged as the Flight C leader with a 60 followed by Harold Eastwood with a 62 and Ray Dowd with a 67.
The Womens Flight Champion was Helen Ashley of Massena with a 70. Charlotte Lynch was second with a 75 while Bonnie Fenner and Barb Gadway finished tied for third with 76s.
GOLF FOR CURE TOURNAMENT
This past Sunday, the club hosted the Ninth Annual Play for the Cure Tournament with the money raised going to Breat Cancer research.
A total of 48 golfers participated in the captain-and-crew event which raised $1,200. In the nine years the tournament has been held, organizers have raised $9,000.
Helping to sponsor this years event were; Norfolk American Legion, Massena American Legion, Dave Moulton of NBT Bank, Amvets Post 4 of Massena, Lady Amvets Post 4 of Massena, Sons of Amvets Post 4 of Masena, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence County Trade Council, A. Cappione, A.J. Missert and Dave LaBaff.
