MASSENA - Area varsity girls volleyball teams will be descending on the Massena Central high school gym on Saturday, September 22, for the first annual Katie OShaughnessy Memorial Tournament.
Named in honor of the former Lady Raider volleyball standout who lost a short battle against cancer while attending college, the tournament will serve as a fundraiser for cancer research.
The players from all the teams are going around getting pledges and all the money we raise will be given to Katies parents and theyll be donating it, said Massena coach Mary Arcadi, who coached OShaughnessy on both the volleyball and basketball court.
Along with the host Lady Raiders, other NAC teams slated to be on hand include Salmon River, Potsdam, Madrid-Waddington, Edwards-Knox, OFA and Franklin Academy. Plattsburgh High School and AuSable Valley of Section 7 are also scheduled to compete.
Action gets underway at 9 a.m. and will continue until gold division, silver division and bronze division champions are crowned.
