CANTON - The St. Lawrence Golf and Country Club Ladies Golf Association is rapidly approaching the end of their season completing the final two tournaments of the year: the Club Championship, the Presidents Cup and the Grandmothers Tournament.
The Club Championship went to Mary Ann Axtell in an outstanding performance where she won the sixth time. She shot 80 on the first day of the tournament and followed up with a strong second day to win by 11 strokes over runner-up Julie Degone and claim a club championship in four different decades.
The Low Net Champion was Gloria Gardner with Candy LaMacchia ttaking second.

LaMacchia also won each of her challenging matches to capture the Presidents Cup. Gloria Garner placed second and Pam Sherburne took third. Players who lost their first match competed in the Vice Presidents Cup. Toleda Mathews won the cup, Debbie Ormasen placed second and Lou Frederick was the second runner-up.
On a brisk Tuesday morning, Sept. 11, 10 grandmothers participated in the annual Grandmothers event. As the day heated up, so did the competition. Lennie McKinnon won the tourney with a one stroke advantage over runner up Gloria Gardner. Toleda Mathews and Lou Frederick placed first and second for low net.
Low Gross: 1st flight – Mary Ann Axtell - 94, 2nd flight – Colleen Coakley - 104, 3rd flight – Laura Chambers – 111. Low Net: 3rd flight – Patti Francis - 82. Closest to the Pin went to new member Carol Budd and the Longest Drive was uncoiled by Gloria Gardner. There were six chip-in winners, and two people chipped in twice. The golfers were really on the mark. Chip-in winners were: Lennie McKinnon on #1 and #10; Lou Frederick on #17; Mary Ann Axtell on #9; Deb Ormasen on #13 & #15; Julie Degone on #13 and Carol Budd on #16.
This week is the annual Scramble with prizes and the competition is set for two-person teams. The closing business dinner meeting will be held at the Cascade Restaurant on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 5:30 pm. Those attending are asked to please sign up in the pro shop.
