MASSENA – Mrs. Vrouwtjen “Weis” Scheening, 92, of 55 Victory Road, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 18, 2012 at Massena Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past week.

Vrouwtjen was born February 28, 1920 in Arnhem, Holland, the daughter of Reinier and Alida VanSichen VanKoppenhagen. She attended schools in Holland. On July 4, 1941, she married Johnannes J. Scheening in Arnhem, Holland, moving with their family to the United States in 1957. Mr. Scheening predeceased her on May 13, 1992.

She was a homemaker who truly enjoyed spending time with her loving family. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Weis was an avid nature lover and took great joy in seeing the beautiful mountains. She also enjoyed going to the Seaway watching the ship pass through the locks.

She is survived by her six children, Alida and Donald Richards of Norwood; Hans and Marylynn Scheening of North Carolina; Josie Saxby and Ron Stickney of Massena; Reinier and Wendy Scheening of Ballston Spa; Stanley and Marie Scheening of Norwood; Berry Scheening of Utica; 9 granchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Weis was predeceased by an infant daughter, Josephina at 2 weeks old and two brothers.

Friends may call Thursday 6-8 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena where funeral services will be held Friday 11:00 AM with Rev. Lee Sweeney, officiating. Burial will follow in Bixby Cemetery, Norfolk.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
