MASSENA - The Massena Central varsity girls soccer team netted three unanswered second-half goals en route to claiming a rain-soaked 3-0 NAC Central Division win over Gouverneur Central at Mike Nicholas Field on Friday.
After a scoreless first half, senior Dominique Valancius broke through for the only goal the Lady Raiders would need just 2:30 into the second. Mia Jermano made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute before Marissa Manley converted on a cornerkick by Valancius to close out the scoring with just 17 seconds left.
Courtney Manley handled the four shots she faced to backstop the shutout as the Lady Raiders improved to 4-0 in the division and 6-0 overall. Taylor Andrews posted 14 saves in the losing cause.
The Lady Raiders are slated to play a non-league game today against Indian River starting at 11 a.m.
In the other Central Division games on Friday, OFA outlasted Potsdam 3-2 and Canton edged Franklin Academy 1-0. Interdivisional action saw Salmon River overwhelm St. Regis Falls 9-0 while West Division games had Heuvelton blanking Morristown 5-0 and Harrisville stopping Clifton-Fine 4-0.
OFA 3, Potsdam 2: In Ogdensburg, the visiting Lady Sandstoners rallied from a two-goal deficit before Natalie Giglio found the back of the net off a corner kick with 12 minutes left in regulation for what would hold up as the game-winner.
Shannon Tooley opened the scoring nine minutes into the game for the Lady Blue Devils then assisted Alicia Shaver on the second goal four minutes into the second before Kalie Grant connected for back-to-back goals just 33 seconds apart in the 57th and 58th minutes, the equalizer off a play set up by Kate Hildreth.
Erica Chase handled 11 saves for OFA. Bre Sapp made seven stops for Potsdam.
Canton 1, FA 0: In Malone, Kali Frank connected for the only goal of the game off an assist from Katie Lapinski 7:40 into the second half.
Hilary Wilcox made five saves backstopping the shutout while Jayme LaVoie stopped four shots in the losing cause.
Salmon River 9, SRF 0: In Fort Covington, the Lady Shamrocks (1-1-1) scored five first half goals and never looked back as Sam Ghostlaw stopped two shots in the shutout over the Saints (0-5).
Emily Trombley scored three goals while Abby Kelly produced two goals and two assists to anchor the winning attack.
Kelby Mitchell, Jaiden Mitchell, Melanie Taylor and Vanna Thompson struck for the other goals. Taylor also earned a solo assist while Kwiio King generated a pair of helpers.
Kiana Stowell handled 16 saves for the Saints.
