Impressive 4th-quarter rally boosts junior Raider gridmen past Franklin Academy


MASSENA - The Massena Central junior varsity football team kept its undefeated season on track on Thursday after putting together an impressive fourth-quarter comeback against Franklin Academy.

Patrick Manning sparked the Massena offense, going for 215 yards on 16 carries including touchdown scampers of 65 and 60 yards in the fourth quarter where the junior Raiders generated all of their scoring in posting a 28-12 decision over the junior Huskies. Jayce Lanning ran for 50 yards on four carries including an eight-yard touchdown burst while Zach Plourde contributed 54 yards on six totes and Isaiah had 35 yards on nine carries, including a pair of two-point conversion runs, and another 70 yards returning punts.

Quarterback Maddox Merry completed five of nine passes for 59 yards and ran the ball twice for 12 yards. On the receiving end of the five completions were; Manning (1-25yds), Jack Foster (2-15yds), Lanning (1-12) and Bobby Todd (1-7yds).

Mason McGill was the leading tackler in the win with five takedowns. Manning, who also logged a fumble recovery, Plourde and Dillabough each finished with four followed by Nolan Terrance and Sako Rourke with three apiece and Merry with two. Merry also notched an interception.

The junior Raiders, coached by Nick Zappia, will now get set to take on OFA on Thursday in a mid-season matchup of JV unbeatens.
