An Ogdensburg man was jailed Friday after he was arrested Thursday for stealing a car in the city.
Michael A. Garcia, 49, of 325 Jefferson Ave., was arraigned Friday in city court for felony fourth-degree grand larceny, driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operation.
Judge William R. Small sent Mr. Garcia to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bail bond. He will be back in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing with legal counsel provided by the St. Lawrence County Public Defenders Office.
Ogdensburg police arrested Mr. Garcia on Thursday at 2:56 p.m. from Belmont Courts. According to police and court reports, he drove there from the parking lot of the Nice and Easy convenience store, 1117 New York Ave., in a car belonging to Susan E. Gushea, 48, of Rensselaer Falls.
Mr. Garcia allegedly took the car after spotting the keys in its ignition.
Mr. Garcia also directed by Judge Small to abide by a no-contact order of protection for Miss Gushea.
Police said that Mr. Garcia refused to submit to a breath screening test.
