POTSDAM - A pair of Clarkson University student-athletes earned weekly league honors for their recent efforts on the volleyball court and cross country trails.
KIRKEMO REGAINS VOLLEYBALL HONORS
For the second straight week, freshman Victoria Kirkemo (Englewood, CO) of the Clarkson University Volleyball team was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week, as the Golden Knights rattled off four straight conference victories to open the league slate.
Kirkemo struck for 46 kills over the week (3.54 per set) to lead the team to a 4-0 week and its fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth consecutive wins overall. She also added 34 digs (2.62 per set), five aces and four blocks, including three solo blocks.
Kirkiemo currently ranks second overall in the Liberty League in total kills (167) and is fifth in kills per set (2.98 kps). She also is tied for first with 32 aces and is tied for third in aces per set (0.57 aps).
Clarkson is 13-3 overall and 4-0 in the Liberty League. The Golden Knights will face ninth-ranked Cortland State on Tuesday and will then return to conference games this weekend at Skidmore and Union.
CARROLL EARNS CROSS COUNTRY HONORS
Senior Patrick Carroll (Queensbury, NY) of the Clarkson University Cross Country team finished in the top 10 for the second straight weekend, this time placing well at the Jack Daniels Shoot Out, and was rewarded on Monday as the Liberty League Performer of the Week.
Carroll, who came in eighth among 105 runners at the event hosted by Cortland State, finished the 6,000-meter race in 19 minutes, 30.8 seconds. The time equates to a mile with a pace of 5 minutes, 15 seconds.
A week ago, Carroll finished seventh among 130 runners at the Airfield Invitational hosted by Oneonta State.
