MASSENA – Barbara J. Baker, 81, 25 Colgate Drive, passed away peacefully late Saturday afternoon, September 22nd, 2012, at her home.

Barbara was born on March 10th, 1931, in Chase Mills, the daughter of John A. and Ruby Cole Thrasher. She attended schools in Chase Mills and Madrid. On August 2nd, 1951 she married Clarence A. Baker in Louisville, NY. He predeceased her on June 15th, 1979.

Barbara worked for Warner Bros in Cornwall from 1948 until 1956. She then worked for Massena Central School as the four o’clock Supervisor, for 18 years retiring in 1991, and then went into Home Health Care.

She was past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #79, Marine Corp League Post #435, V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #1143, and also the Amvet’s Auxiliary Post #4. All Auxiliaries will have a joint memorial service at 7:30 Tuesday evening. Barbara also enjoyed crocheting and was an avid collector of dolls and various knick knacks. She also found much joy in playing bingo and card games.

Barbara is survived by her three children, Bonnie Crites of Massena; Mickey Baker of Canton, and Patti and Ken Stafford of Benton AR; seven grandchildren, Todd Green, Taya Collins, Troy Crites, Tricia Crites, Samantha Stafford, Travis Baker, and Kyle Tyo; and nine great grandchildren; and her granddaughters pet dog, Grand Dog Gizmo.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Sarah Stafford; a brother and six sisters, John Wm. Thrasher, Ruth Gardner, Marie McNulty, Julia O’Dette, Wilma Perry, Elizabeth Zumft, and Helen Besco.

Friends may call Tuesday, 2-4, 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Heather Stierheim, officiating. Burial will follow at the Louisville Community Cemetery, Louisville, NY.
