Massena JV football team moves to 5-0 with win over OFA


MASSENA - The Massena Central junior varsity football team continued its undefeated march through the 2012 NAC season on Thursday by marching to a 60-24 win over OFA at Mike Nicholas Field.

The rushing duo of Patrick Manning and Zach Plourde anchored the potent junior Raider offense. Manning went for 130 yards on 8 carries, including touchdowns scampers of 22 and 52 yards, while Plourde generated 89 yards, including touchdown bursts of 19 and 68 yards on just three runs. Isaiah Dillabough also made lead contributions, running in for three two-point conversions while returning a kick-off 94 yards for a touchdown. Ethan Marcello (7-26yds, 3-yd TD, 2 two-point conversions), Maddox Merry (2-17yds) and Jayce Lanning (3-17yds) also aided the winning effort. Merry also completed seven of nine passes for 163 yards including 41-yard touchdown strikes to both Lanning (2-61yds) and Bobby Todd. Also notching receptions were Dillabough (31 yds), Manning (12 yds), Plourde (8 yds, 2-point conversion).

Plourde (2 sacks) and Sako Rourke anchored the defensive effort with six tackles each. Todd notched another four while Nolan Terrance and Mason McGill each finished with three as the junior Raiders worked their way to a 30-6 halftime lead. Lanning (1 sack), Manning, Dillabough, Matthew Thibault, Lucas Ryan and Michael Ryan each finished with two takedowns.

Now 5-0 under the guidance of head coach Nick Zappia, the junior Raiders are slated to host Tupper Lake next Thursday.
