SLU, Clarkson men net Liberty League soccer shutouts

CANTON — Brian Gilloran scored goals in each half to lead the St. Lawrence University men’s soccer team to a 2-0 win over Vassar College in a Liberty League game Friday.

Gilloran scored in the 14th minute and in the 47th minute for the ninth-ranked Saints (8-1 overall, 1-1 conference). Ryan Grant assisted on both goals.

Nate Goss-Woliner made two saves to shut out Vassar (6-4, 1-1).

CLARKSON 5, BARD 0

Marco Parisi scored three goals to lead the Golden Knights (1-6-1, 1-1) to their first win of the season in a Liberty League game against Bard in Potsdam.

Paul Ancin and Trevor Blackwell also scored for Clarkson.

Saverino Spagnolo stopped one shot to shut out Bard (2-7-1, 0-2).

SUNY POTSDAM 1, SUNY OSWEGO 1 (OT)

Eduardo Figueroa scored off a pass from Mike Jackson in the 72nd minute to help SUNY Potsdam (2-6-1, 0-1-1) salvage a tie with the Lakers in a SUNYAC game in Oswego.

Ryan Purdy scored an unassisted goal for SUNY Oswego (1-7-1, 0-2-1) in the 53rd minute.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

CLARKSON 0, BARD o (OT)

Kim Kenline made four saves for the Golden Knights (4-2-2, 1-0-1), who played to a scoreless tie with Bard in a Liberty League game at Annandale-on-Hudson.

Lena James stopped six shots for Bard (4-5-1, 0-0-1).

VASSAR 3, ST. LAWRENCE 2 (OT)

Chloe Wheeler scored on a shot from 30 yards out in the 107th minute to give Vassar an overtime win over the Saints in a Liberty League contest in Poughkeepsie.

Kelsey Domb scored in the 88th minute for Vassar (6-3, 1-1) to send the game to overtime. Kamaria Coley also scored for Vassar.

Brooke Hessney and Stephanie Sayward scored for the Saints (5-2-2, 0-1-1).

SUNY OSWEGO 3, SUNY POTSDAM 0

Nikki Liadka scored two goals as SUNY Oswego shut out the Bears (2-7, 0-2) in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.

Kassie Kleine also scored for SUNY Oswego (4-4, 1-2).

VOLLEYBALL

CLARKSON SPLITS, SLU FALLS

Erika Chin had seven of Clarkson’s 20 service aces in a 25-11, 25-7, 25-18 win over Bard in a Liberty League match in Saratoga Springs.

The Golden Knights (15-4, 5-1) saw a 10-match win streak come to an end later with a 15-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 loss to Skidmore.

SLU (6-14, 1-5) dropped a pair of matches, falling 20-25, 25-9, 25-17, 25-19 to Vassar and then 25-10, 25-27, 26-24, 25-13 to Union.

SUNY POTSDAM 3, ALFRED 0

Jenna Blujus produced 35 assists to help the Bears (11-8) to a 25-9, 25-10, 25-19 sweep of Alfred on the opening day of the SUNY Brockport Tournament.

Dakota Pruiss had nine kills for SUNY Potsdam and Kayla Howard added eight.

SUNY CANTON 3, MORRISVILLE STATE 0

Jessica Reynolds produced 10 kills to lead the Kangaroos (11-2) to a 25-12, 25-12, 25-11 sweep of Morrisville State in Canton.

Morgan Bills added nine kills for SUNY Canton.

CROSS COUNTRY

MACDONALD LEADS SAINTS

Freshman Margaret MacDonald finished in 92nd place overall to help the SLU women’s team finish in 24th out of 40 teams in a field at the Paul Short Races at Lehigh University that included several NCAA Division I schools.

Cornell won the women’s team title.

SLU’s men finished in 31st place led by an 86th-place finish by Sam Rakoc.

Villanova won the men’s title.
