Tripped breaker knocks out power to Massena’s south side early Monday morning

MASSENA - More than 2,000 MED customers were without power for an hour Monday morning, but chances are most of them didn’t realize it until they woke up and saw flashing numbers on their alarm clocks.

MED Deputy Superintendent Dale F. Raymo said the outage, which was caused by a tripped breaker and knocked out power to the village’s south side, lasted from 3:40 a.m. to 4:40 a.m.

“It’s one of the older breakers, and it’s in the process of being replaced as we speak,” Mr. Raymo said Monday morning. “There were no indication of faults anywhere.”

He said the replacement of the breaker was something planned before this morning’s outage with work on the breaker actually already scheduled to begin Monday.

Mr. Raymo said the outage knocked power out to 2,141 customers.
