NORFOLK - The Parishville-Hopkinton varsity girls soccer team relayed a 1-0 halftime lead into a 3-1 NAC interdivisional win over Norwood-Norfolk on Thursday.
The Lady Panthers opened the scoring at 26:53 of the first half when Kodi Perkins connected from Michaela Cole, who made it 2-0 seven minutes into the second half with an unassisted goal. The Lady Panthers took a three-goal lead 20 minutes later when Brianna Hayes took a lead pass down the right wing, eluded an N-N defender then pumped a rising shot from the corner into the far side of the goal.
The Lady Flyers got on the board with a transition goal that began with a booming punt by netminder Mickey Frego. The ball was trapped and controlled by Kirsten Barkley, who quickly turned and delivered a perfect lead pass that sprung teammate Emily LaRoe for a breakaway goal with 7:50 left in regulation.
Marlee Wilson turned aside eight shots backstopping the win as the Lady Panthers moved to 4-1 in the East Division and 7-2-1 overall. Frego finished with 11 saves for N-N (3-4-1, 2-2-0).
Three other NAC interdivisional matchups on Thursday saw Chateaugay outscore Salmon River 5-2, Madrid-Waddington turn back Gouverneur 1-0 in overtime and Brushton-Moira drop St. Regis Falls 4-0.
Chateaugay 5, Salmon River 2: In Chateaugay, the host Lady Bulldogs (8-0-0) ran out to a 4-0 lead 18 minutes into the game and never looked back for the win. Alexis Beach scored the first two goals of the game in the second and eighth minutes, both assisted by Hannah Cook, to spark the winning effort. Courtney Boyea also scored a pair of goals while Brianna Cook accounted for the other. Hannah Cook finished with three assists while Katie Beach and Danielle Charland each tallied solo helpers.
The Lady Shamrocks cut the deficit to 4-2 early in the second half when Emily Tremblay and Taryn Thomas-King connected for goals five minutes apart, both assisted by Kwiio King.
Makayla Fleury (3 saves) and Holly Zeldenrush (3 saves) combined to backstop the win while Sam Ghostlaw handled 13 shots working the Salmon River (2-7-1) crease.
M-W 1, Gouverneur 0 (2OT): In Madrid, Taylor Lenny finished off a play set up by Olivia Parmeter five minutes into the first 10-minute overtime and the Lady Yellowjackets made it stand for the win.
Shelby Kendall fielded five shots in posting the shutout as M-W improved to 4-3-2 overall. Taylor Andrews had 10 saves for the Lady Wildcats (1-4-1).
B-M 4, SRF 0: In Brushton, Kenzie Traynor opened the scoring in the second minute then closed it out 15 minutes into the second to lead the Lady Panthers (5-4-0, 4-1-0). Rachel Tower fashioned a goal and two assists while Erika Russell notched the other goal and Sienna Kenny logged a solo helper.
Ashley DeBeer (1 save) and Micaela McCarthy (2 saves) shared crease duties in the win while Kiana Stowell posted 18 stops for the Lady Saints (0-9-0, 0-5-0).
In a pair of NAC West Division games played on Thursday, Hammond blanked Edwards-Knox 6-0 and Hermon-DeKalb outlasted Harrisville 2-1 in overtime.
