POTSDAM - Village police charged Valerie L. Jessmer, 22, of Potsdam with first-degree criminal contempt: violating an order of protection - weapon, endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree menacing and criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use at 11:37 p.m. Sunday on Debra Drive.

Police said they responded to a domestic dispute at Debra Drive involving Jessmer, who had a knife and had fled the scene on foot prior to their arrival. Police said they contacted the victim who was not injured, along with a child who was present during the incident and who was also not injured.

Their search for Jessmer continued for approximately three hours before she returned home to her apartment where she was taken into custody.
