Potsdam, P-H boys soccer teams notch NAC shutout wins

The Potsdam Central and Parishville-Hopkinton varsity boys soccer netted NAC shutout wins at home and away on Tuesday.

Potsdam 3, Gouverneur 0: At the Potsdam turf field, the Sandstoners worked their way to a 3-0 halftime lead and made it stand for the win. NNaebuka Ononye opened the scoring in the fifth minute with an unassisted goal. David Caamano made it 2-0 in the 10th assisted



by Robbie Scott before Ononye closed out the scoring when he finished off a play set up by Pat Normandin with 11 minutes left in the first half.

Ryan McDonald fielded five shots posting the shutout for the Sandstoners (5-3-1, 5-2-1) while Seth Carr stood tall working the Gouverneur (1-8-1, 0-7-1) crease for 18 saves.

P-H 2, SRF 0: At St. Regis Falls, the Panthers generated two goals four minutes apart late in the second half to come way with the East Division win. Anthony Pullano broke the scoreless tie with 13 minutes left assisted by Wyatt Snell, who tallied an unassisted insurance goal with nine minutes remaining.

Parker Meashaw handled two shots for the shutout as the Panthers moved to 6-1 in the East and 7-2 overall. Michael Smith posted nine saves for the Saints (2-7-0, 2-7-0).

In the other NAC East Division encounters on Tuesday, Chateaugay downed Norwood-Norfolk 3-1 and Brushton-Moira dropped St. Lawrence Central 4-1.

Chateaugay 3, N-N 1: In Chateaugay, the Bulldogs scored three goals eight minutes apart in the first 15 minutes of the game and never looked back for the win.

Chad Stalter sparked the decisive outburst in the seventh minute assisted by Devin Willis and Nick Ashline then struck again from Willis four minutes later before Seth Young connected from Tyler Jones in the 15th minute to make it 3-0.

Brandon Short spoiled the Panthers’ bid for the shutout when he fashioned an unassisted goal with less than nine minutes left in regulation.

Devon Barnes and Josh Trombley made one save apiece sharing crease duties for Chateaugay (5-3-3, 5-3-1). Garrett Waite stopped seven shots for the Flyers (1-9-1, 1-7-1).

B-M 4, SLC 1: In Brasher Falls, Loren Traynor helped the visiting Panthers take early control by scoring four goals in the first seven minutes, the last two coming just 32 seconds apart.

Adam Martin set up the first Traynor goal just 53 seconds after the opening kick-off. Kurtis Helm drew the assist on what proved to be the game-winner in the third minute and Bobby Hooker assisted the third at the 6:01 mark. Traynor capped his solo scoring burst with an unassisted goal at 6:33.

Shane Fuentes netted the lone SLC goal with 18:38 left in regulation.

Taylor Talllman had 10 saves in the win as B-M moved to 5-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the East. Tyler Savage turned aside 11 shots for the Larries (2-6-1, 2-5-1).

WEST DIVISION

In the two West Division games played on Tuesday, Lisbon turned back Edwards-Knox 1-0 and Hammond outlasted Clifton-Fine 1-0.
