Massena girls swim past E-K; Potsdam, SLC fall short


MASSENA - The Massena Central varsity girl swim team bounced back from its first loss in three years by pulling away to a 59-33 NAC interdivisional win at home over Edwards-Knox on Thursday.

Emily Hurlbut and Baylee Carroll led the way for the Lady Raiders with two individual wins apiece. Hurlbut paced the 200 freestyle in 2:19.58 and the 500 freestyle in 6:15.02 while Carroll claimed the 50 freestyle in 28.0 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:15.55.

Also posting solo firsts for Massena were; Allison Dix in the 200IM with a time of 2:46.56, Kalie Peets in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:16.89 and Sydney Lewis in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:07.6.

Carroll also combined with Danielle Fleury, Molli Richards and Taylor Brault to lead the 200 medley relay in 2:21.22 while Hurlbut teamed up with Savannah Hays, Courtney Croasdaile and Courtnee Stowell to pace the 200 freestyle relay in 2:06.39.

In the other NAC meets on Thursday, Franklin Academy outscored Potsdam 56-38, OFA stopped St. Lawrence Central 67-27 and Canton beat Gouverneur 100-61.

FA 56, Potsdam 38: In Malone, the Lady Sandstoners were limited to just two wins in falling to the Lady Huskies. Ari Frascatore posted the lone individual win for Potsdam, pacing the 200 freestyle in 2:28.03 while Emma Kroll contributed second-place finishes in both the 200IM and 100 freestyle.

Frascatore and Kroll also combined with Gina LoMastro and Shanielle Chambers to post a winning time of 1:59.02 in the 200 freestyle relay.

OFA 67, SLC 27: In Brasher Falls, the visiting Lady Blue Devils placed first in all 11 events.

Carrie Ramsdell was the leading individual scorer for SLC (6-2) with second-place efforts in both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Hailey Arquiett took second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 50 freestyle while Cheyenne Padgett placed second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 200IM.
