MALONE - The Potsdam Central varsity girls soccer team relayed a 3-0 halftime lead into a 4-0 NAC Central Division win on the road over Franklin Academy on Thursday.
Kalie Grant struck for the only goal the Lady Sandstoners would need just 4:20 after the opening kick-off assisted by Ally Miller. Kate Hildreth made it 2-0 in the 14th minute off an assist from Grant before Erika Dillon closed out the first-half scoring with an unassisted goal in the 36th minute. Nettie Rishe sealed the win when she connected from Miller with 5:10 left in regulation.
Bree Sapp handled the seven shots she faced to earn the shutout as Potsdam moved to 6-3-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the division. Jayme Lavoie notched seven saves for FA (2-7-1, 1-5-1).
In the other Central Division games played Thursday, Canton stopped Salmon River 5-1 while OFA and Gouverneur finished in a scoreless overtime draw while an interdivisional contest saw Chateaugay down Tupper Lake 2-0.
Canton 5, Salmon River 1: At Fort Covington, the host Lady Shamrocks got off to a promising start when Kwiio King finished off a play set up by Emily Tromblay 16 minutes into the game but the Lady Bears regrouped to take a 2-1 halftime lead then put the game out of reach with three goals in the second half.
Emily Rexford tied the game assisted by Kalie Frank in the 26th minute before Emily Pinckney generated the eventual game-winner unassisted with five minutes left in the half. Katie Christy, Katie Lapinski and Alison Noble netted the second-half goals for Canton. Rexford and Frank each picked up solo assists along with Lindsay Proulx while Hilary Wilcox recorded no saves working the crease.
Sam Ghostlaw stopped seven shots for the Lady Shamrocks.
OFA 0, Gouverneur 0 (2OT): In Ogdensburg, Erica Chase made 11 saves working the OFA crease for the shutout while Taylor Andrews stopped the nine shots she faced for Gouverneur.
Chateaugay 2, Tupper Lake 0: In Tupper Lake, a pair of well-placed cornerkicks by the Lady Bulldogs led to scramble goals by Alexis Beach in the 17th minute of the first half and 20th minute of the second as the visiting Lady Bulldogs improved to 10-0 on the season.
Makayla Fleury made four saves backstopping the shutout while Brooke Dewyea stopped a dozen shots for the Lumberjacks.
In the West Division games played Thursday, Heuvelton halted Hermon-DeKalb 6-0, Harrisville dropped Edwards-Knox 4-1 and Hammond overwhelmed Morristown 7-0.
