Funeral services for Richard G. Spooner, age 77 of Kissimmee, FL and formerly of Ogdensburg will be held on Monday (Oct 15, 2012) at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Longbottom officiating. His place of rest will be at Foxwood Memorial Park.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Mr. Spooner passed away Tuesday (Oct 9, 2012) at the Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, FL surrounded by his family.

Surviving are his children Clede Spooner & his wife Shelley of Canton; Mrs. Larry (Debra) Mitchell of Ogdensburg & Mrs. Tracy (Penny) Swan of Prescott, Ontario; his fiancee’ Ruth Ireland of Kissimmee, FL; two brothers Douglas Spooner & his wife Barbara of Ogdensburg & William Spooner of Massena; a sister Lorraine Risley of Ogdensburg; 7 grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew & Stacie Mitchell, Brian & Trina Mitchell, Eric & Jennifer Mitchell, Clede & Sarah Spooner, Bridget Spooner, April & Jason Bertrand, Dustin & Tawnya Swan; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.

Four sisters Ruth Easter, Nora Bouchey, Violet Bouchey & Rita Strader predeceased him.

Richard was born on May 26, 1935 in Ogdensburg, a son of Henry & Jennie (Wilmot) Spooner. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1955, and then married Patricia Hanna on October 26, 1957. The couple’s marriage later ended in divorce.

During his career he was employed in various sales positions and retired from NATES Auto Parts in Ogdensburg in 1987. He was a former coach of Kiwanis Baseball and a member of the Ogdensburg Moose Lodge, Ogdensburg Elks Club and Sons of the American Legion in Florida. He was also past president of Ogdensburg Minor Hockey, and was a volunteer for the “Give Kids the World Program in Kissimmee, FL for 10 years.

Richard enjoyed carpentry, traveling, socializing, eating out, spending time with his family and his beloved Ruth.
