Golden Knights skaters drop Vermont

POTSDAM — Jamie Lee Rattray and Shannon MacAulay each scored one goal and assisted on another as the Clarkson University women’s hockey team defeated Vermont 5-1 Saturday in a nonconference game at Cheel Arena.

The Golden Knights (4-0 overall) outshot Vermont 38-18.

Olivia Howe, Danielle Skirrow and Shelby Nisbet also scored for Clarkson.

Brittany Zuback scored for the Catamounts (1-3).

MEN’S SOCCER

UNION 1, ST. LAWRENCE 0

Ryan Carter made 11 saves as the Dutchmen upset St. Lawrence (11-2-1, 3-2-1) in a Liberty League game in Schenectady.

Sebastiaan Jansen scored the only goal for Union (10-3, 3-2) on a shot in the 37th minute that barely crossed the goal line.

RENSSELAER 2, CLARKSON 0

Rob Dewald made two saves to lead the Engineers past Clarkson (1-9-3, 1-4-1) in a Liberty League game in Troy.

Joey Eilert scored in the third minute and Adam Updegrove scored in the 49th minute for RPI (8-3-3, 4-1-1).

SUNY POTSDAM 2,

SUNY FREDONIA 2 (OT)

Jay Dry scored in the 33rd minute to give the Blue Devils (4-11-1, 3-3-1) a tie with SUNY Potsdam in a SUNYAC game in Fredonia.

Tyler Williams also scored for SUNY Fredonia.

Alessio Vitale and Eduardo Figueroa scored for the Bears (3-8-3, 1-3-3).

SUNY CANTON 3, PAUL SMITH’S 0

Shane Powell, Abdulai Jagana and Francesco Cardillo scored goals as SUNY Canton (6-6-1) defeated host Paul Smith’s in a nonconference game.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

RENSSELAER 2, CLARKSON 0

Taylor Korytko and Shannon Maguire scored goals as the Engineers defeated Clarkson (5-6-2, 0-5-1) in a Liberty League game in Potsdam.

RPI (9-4, 5-0) had a 14-2 edge in shots.

UNION 2, ST. LAWRENCE 1

Jennifer Mansfield scored from eight-yards out in the 84th minute as Union (12-1, 4-1) edged the Saints in a Liberty League contest in Canton.

Mollie Gilchrist scored the first goal for Union in the 49th minute and Stephanie Sayward answered for SLU (6-5-2, 1-4-1) in the 65th minute.

SUNY FREDONIA 2,

SUNY POTSDAM 0

Meaghan Meszaros made one save to shut out the Bears (2-13-1, 0-7) in a SUNYAC contest in Potsdam.

Reilly Condidorio scored in the 24th minute and Laura Lukowski scored in the 39th minute for SUNY Fredonia (10-3-1, 4-2-1).

VOLLEYBALL

CLARKSON 3, MOUNT ALOYISUS 0

Victoria Kirkemo had 18 kills as Clarkson (19-4) earned a 25-13, 25-21, 25-11 sweep of Mount Aloyisus on the second day of the Elmira Invitational.

Aishvina Arasu added 11 kills for the Golden Knights.

BEARS SWEEP, SAINTS DROP TWO

Rachel Auerbach had 19 kills as SUNY Potsdam (19-11) earned a 22-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-8 sweep of Ithaca College in its first match on the second day of the Ithaca Invitational.

The Bears also swept Wells 25-22, 25-12, 25-15 behind nine kills from Anne Fildes.

SLU (7-19) lost two matches, falling 25-23, 25-20, 25-15 to SUNY Fredonia and 25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 27-25 to Sage.

SUNY CANTON 3, HOUGHTON 0

Heather Lottie had 10 kills as the Kangaroos (17-2) swept Houghton 25-21, 25-21, 25-12 in a nonconference match in Canton.

Mackenzie Mynter added 26 assists for SUNY Canton.

VOLLEYBALL

CANNONEERS GO 1-2 AT CAYUGA

Lahni Duffer delivered 81 assists and 19 service points in three matches for Jefferson Community College, which defeated Niagara CC and lost to Jamestown CC and Erie CC at the Cayuga Community College Tournament in Auburn.

The Cannoneers won their first match of the day over Niagara, 25-19, 19-25, 26-24, 25-20. They then suffered a four-set loss to Jamestown (9-25, 25-21, 14-25, 26-28) and were swept by Erie CC (17-25, 24-26, 19-25).

Ashley Capone contributed 25 kills and 10 blocks, while Katie Peters provided 21 service points and 29 digs for Jefferson CC (21-9, 14-4), which will finish its regular season with a 6 p.m. home match on Wednesday against Tompkins Cortland CC.

FIELD HOCKEY

RENSSELAER 4, ST. LAWRENCE 3

Liana Viaggio scored two goals as the Engineers (7-5, 3-1) edged SLU in a Liberty League game in Canton.

Holly Dupuis scored one goal with two assists for RPI and Chloe Hutchinson also scored.

Courtney Cartier scored all three goals for the Saints (2-11, 1-4).

CROSS COUNTRY

CLARKSON MEN WIN TITLE

Andrew Gelston finished in third overall to help the Golden Knight men claim the title at the Cross Country-Only Championships in Geneva.

Clarkson finished with 46 points and SUNY ESF was second with 77.

SUNY Canton’s men finished sixth and SUNY Potsdam’s men finished in 13th place.

Clarkson’s women finished second with 51 points, just seven behind winner William Smith.

Sarah Governale led the Clarkson women with a second-place finish.

SUNY Canton’s women, led by a 10th-place finish from Megan Mydosh, finished in seventh place and SUNY Potsdam’s women placed 11th.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

SAINTS FALL IN SEMIFINALS

Two doubles teams as well as two singles athletes were eliminated in the semifinals of the New York State Championships in Ithaca.

The doubles teams that lost in the semifinals were Shannon Murphy and Anna Young and Olivia Arroyo and Sami Miller.

Elkie Vandenbeemt and Morgan McNeal both lost in the semifinals in singles matches.
