Massena girls stay unbeaten atop NAC Central standings blanking Potsdam


MASSENA - The Massena Central varsity girls soccer team maintained its undefeated status atop the NAC Central Division standings with a 2-0 win over Potsdam Central under the lights at Mike Nicholas Field on Thursday.

Serena Hall finished off a play set up by Dominique Valancius just seven minutes into the game and the Lady Raiders made it stand as the game-winner in raising their division record to 7-0-1.

Marissa Manley finished off a play set up by a Valancius corner kick 14 minutes into the second half to account for the insurance goal while Courtney Manley made four saves working the crease for the shutout.

Jenn Tardelli stood tall turning aside 14 shots for the Lady Sandstoners (6-5-1, 4-4-1).

In the lone other Central Division game on Thursday, Franklin Academy stopped Salmon River 3-0 while West Division action saw Hermon-DeKalb beat Clifton-Fine 2-0, Hammond halt Lisbon 1-0 and Harrisville down Morristown 2-0.

FA 3, Salmon River 0: In Fort Covington, Morgan Fountain assisted on the opening goal by Courtney Hosler just 4:44 into the game then connected for a pair of second-half goals to spark the Lady Huskies (4-8-1, 3-6-1) to the win.

Jayme Lavoie had three saves for the shutout while Sam Ghostlaw handled 13 shots for the Lady Shamrocks (3-10-1, 1-8-1).
