POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central varsity boys soccer team moved one win closer to clinching the NAC Central Division banner on Thursday, holding on for a 1-0 decision at home over Massena Central.
Dan Cruikshank converted on a direct kick from 25 yards out with 5:02 left in the first half for the only goal of the game as the Sandstoners improved to 7-1-1 atop the division standings while sinking the Raiders to 2-2-5.
Ryan McDonald made seven saves to post the shutout while Ian Wilson had seven stops in the losing cause.
FA DOWNS SALMON RIVER
In the lone other Central Division game on Thursday, Franklin Academy (9-3-1, 6-2-1) overcame an early defici to clim a 5-2 decision at home over Salmon River.
Josh Hynes got the visiting Shamrocks off to a promising start when he converter off an assist from Brady Mitchell 10:31 into the game but the Huskies countered with goals by Asai Paredones, Dustin Hart and Aaron Sharlow in a span of just under five minutes. Mitchell knocked home a direct kick with 3:50 left in the first half to make it 3-2 at the break but Sharlow netted a direct kick 2:11 into the second half and Alex Johnson struck nine minutes later to put the game out of reach.
Austin Lamay made three saves in the win while Zach Smith fielded eight shots for the Shamrocks (3-8-2, 1-7-2).
In the NAC West Division games played on Thursday, Lisbon blanked Hammond 2-0, Clifton-Fine edged Hermon-Dekalb 2-1 and Harrisville downed Morristown 2-0.
