The state will open up its regular deer bowhunting and bear hunting seasons in the northern zone starting today, following what DEC officials are calling a positive early season.
DEC Region 6 spokesman Stephen W. Litwhiler said that last years mild winter led to a good survival rate, leading to stronger numbers in select areas of the region.
Mr. Litwhiler also stressed hunter safety, including proper gun use and the wearing of easily seen colors like orange.
The regular season will run until Dec. 2. A late deer bowhunting season will run in select areas from Dec. 3 to 9. More information about the states season schedule can be found at www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28605.html.
