Massena girls soccer team surges to NAC interdivisional win over SLC


MASSENA - The Massena Central varsity girls soccer team relayed a 2-0 halftime lead into a 6-0 NAC interdivisional win at home over St. Lawrence Central on Friday.

Dominique Valancius led the way offensively for the Lady Raiders scoring the first three goals of the game while Serena Hall chipped in a pair and Iestha Porter netted a singleton. Kathleen Kassian and Courtney Hart each drew two assists as the Lady Raiders improved to 11-1-1 overall. Carlie Leary and Marissa Manley both contributed solo helpers while Courtney Manley handled the fours shots she faced to post the shutout.

Kristen Daniels made 13 saves working the crease for the Lady Larries (1-10-1).

In other NAC interdivisional matchups on Friday, Parishville-Hopkinton played at Gouverneur and Brushton-Moira stopped Colton-Pierrepont 2-0. The lone North Division contest saw Tupper Lake edge Madrid-Waddington 2-1 while Canton downed Central Division rival OFA 2-0 and Clifton-Fine beat West Division rival Morristown 3-0.

B-M 2, C-P 0: In Brushton, Jenna Dufrane broke through for an unassisted goal with 4:35 left in the first half and the Lady Panthers made it stand for the win. Kenzie Traynor finished off a play set up by Sienna Kenny just 1:51 into the second half for the insurance tally and Ashley DeBeer made four saves working the crease for the shutout as the Lady Panthers improved to 8-4-0 overall.

Kathryn Miller turned aside seven shots working the C-P (3-9-1) crease.

Tupper Lake 2, M-W 1: In Tupper Lake, Katie Stuart converted on a penalty kick with less than four minutes left in regulation to lift the Lumberjacks (7-4, 3-3) past the Yellowjackets.

Tupper Lake opened the scoring with an own goal in the third minute but M-W pulled even 21 minutes into the second half when Tess Knight finished off a play set up by Taylor Lenney.

Brooke Dewyea made 11 saves backstopping the win while Shelby Kendall handled two shots for M-W (5-4-2, 3-3).

Canton 2, OFA 0: At the SUNY Canton turf field, a pair of goals set up by direct kicks delivered into the area by Lindsey Proulx lifted the Bears (7-4-1, 6-2-1) past the Blue Devils (4-4-4, 3-4-2). Lauren Smith converted from Proulx with three minutes left in the first half and Kali Proulx sealed the win off a Proulx assist with two minutes left in regulation.

Katie Clemmer (2 saves) and Hilary Wilcox (4 saves) combined to backstop the shutout while Erica Chase stopped 15 shots in the losing cause.


In NAC varsity girls volleyball matches on Friday, Potsdam swept Madrid-Waddington 25-17, 25-22, 25-5, Edwards-Knox downed Gouverneur in four sets 31-29, 25-15, 26-28, 25-9 and OFA outlasted Canton in five sets 23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20.

Potsdam 3, M-W 0: Hanna Austin had six points for the Yellowjackets while Janel Trombley and Natasha Middlemiss posted seven and six digs respectively. Sophie Roome collected three blocks.
