CANTON - The unemployment rate in St. Lawrence and Franklin counties improved in September compared to August numbers, according to the state’s Department of Labor.

The unemployment rate in St. Lawrence County improve to 9.5 percent from August’s 10.7 percent. The unemploymen rate was 9.8 percent in September 2011. The report indicates there were 4,600 unemployed people in the county in September, down from 5,000 in August.

Franklin County’s unemployment rate dropped from 9.3 percent in August to 8.9 percent in September. That compares to an unemployment rate of 8.4 percent in September 2011.
