N-N lady booters rally to beat Tupper Lake


NORFOLK - Emily LaRoe split the Tupper Lake defense for two straight breakaway goals in the last six minutes of regulation to lift the Norwood-Norfolk varsity girls soccer team to a 2-1 NAC North Division win on Monday.

The visiting Lumberjacks opened the scoring 3:40 into the second half and held the lead until LaRoe relayed a lead pass up the middle of the field by Carlea Weaver into the tying goal in the 34th minute then chased down a similar pass up the field by Alexis Sweet to score the eventual game-winner with 1:20 left in regulation.

Mickey Frego had nine saves for the win as N-N improved to 6-5-1 overall while Brooke Dewyea stopped seven shots for the Lumberjacks (6-5-0).

The Lady Flyers play at Madrid-Waddington this afternoon starting at 4 p.m.

In the other NAC girls soccer matchups on Monday, Chateaugay blanked North Division rival St. Lawrence Central 6-0, Brushton-Moira gained a 3-2 interdivisional decision over Madrid-Waddington and Gouverneur outlasted Parishville-Hopkinton 1-0 in the title game of the Harrisville Tournament while a pair of West Division games saw Clifton-Fine beat Edwards-Knox 2-0 and Hammond halt Harrisville 2-0.

Chateaugay 6, SLC 0: In Chateaugay, the Lady Bulldogs scored twice in the first three minutes of the game en route to raising their overall record to 14-0. Alexis Beach led the way with two goals and an assist. Courtney Boyea and Hannah Cook added a goal and assist each. Haylee Tower and Danielle Charland struck for the other goals. Stephanie Whyte drew a pair of assist while Katie Beach logged a solo helper.

Makayla Fleury (0 saves) and Holly Zeldenrust (2 saves) combined to backstop the shutout while Kristan Daniels handled 14 shots for SLC (1-10-1).

B-M 3, M-W 2: In Brushton, Sienna Kenny finished off a play set up by Rachel Tower just 1:56 into the second half for her second goal of the game and the Lady Panthers (9-4-0, 5-1-0) made it stand for the win after the teams had battled to a 2-2 halftime tie.

Taylor Lenney opened the scoring for M-W in the second minute assisted by Kate Marcellus. Jenna Dufrane tied the game assisted by Toward in the 15th minute before Kenny made it 2-1 midway through the first half assisted by Kenzie Traynor. Marcellus pulled M-W even eight minutes later assisted by Lenney.

Ashley DeBeer stopped eight shots working the crease for the win while Shelby Kendall recorded eight saves for M-W (5-7-1, 3-4-0).

Gouverneur 1, P-H 0: At the Potsdam Central turf field, Taylor Hence scored unassisted 15 minutes into the second half to lift the Lady Wildats past the Lady Panthers.

Taylor Andrew made six stops for Gouverneur (2-10-2) and Marlee Wilson fielded six shots for P-H (8-3-1).


In the only NAC varsity boys soccer contest on Monday, Edwards-Knox turned back West Division rival 3-0.
