POTSDAM Eduardo Figueroa scored his 12th goal of the year in the 17th minute to help the SUNY Potsdam mens soccer team edge village rival Clarkson 1-0 in a nonconference game at Clarkson.
Alex Vozzella assisted on the goal for SUNY Potsdam (4-9-4 overall). Joe Glackin made three saves for the shutout and Saverino Spagnolo stopped six shots for Clarkson (2-11-3).
Meanwhile, Adrienne Walker had eight kills and blocked five shots as Clarksons volleyball team defeated host SUNY Potsdam 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 25-18 in a nonconference match Tuesday night.
Bailey Walker also had eight kills for Clarkson, which improved to 23-5 overall. Sara Anderson led the Bears (20-15) with 12 kills and Kayla Howard provided nine.
Cornell Skaters Roll
ITHACA A strong first period helped lead the second-ranked Cornell University womens hockey team to a 5-1 victory over St. Lawrence University in a nonconference game Tuesday night at Lynah Rink.
The Big Red (2-1 overall) scored three goals on just six shots in the first period and avenged a 3-1 loss to the Saints in the same building last March 3 in the ECAC Hockey championship game. All three Cornell goals came in a span of 59 seconds. Emily Fulton led Cornell with two goals, Brianne Jenner, Emily Fulton, Anna Zorn and Alyssa Gagliardi each scored one goal with one assist.
Rylee Smith scored for the Saints (0-5).
