MASSENA - Massena Central School Superintendent Roger B. Clough II should know in the next two weeks if he will be the new superintendent for the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District.

Dr. Patrick Michel, interim superintendent, said the district’s board of education plan to make their decision on either Nov. 4 or 5.

“The last candidate interviews will be Thursday, and they’ll have time to digest the information,” Dr. Michel said.

Mr. Clough is one of three finalists for the position with the district. The new superintendent is expected to assume his or her responsibilities by Jan. 1, 2013.

Mr. Clough had already notified the Massena Central School Board of Education in June that he did not wish to renew his contract, which expires on June 30, 2013. He intended to officially tender his resignation on or about June 1, 2013.

He has been with the Massena Central School District since 1995 and an administrator since 2002. He served as a teacher before stints as principal at Nightengale Elementary and J.W. Leary Junior High schools. He took over for former Superintendent Douglas W. Huntley on an interim basis in August 2008 after Mr. Huntley accepted a position with the Queensbury Union Free School District. Mr. Clough was named permanent superintendent in June 2009.

Mr. Clough is competing against two other finalists for the superintendent’s post in Fonda.

Dr. Berneice Brownell has served as the district superintendent for school districts in New Jersey and New York, most recently in the Eldred Central School District in Eldred. From 2001 to 2007, she was head of the Department of Education at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania.

She had previously served as chief school administrator, assistant principal and special education coordinator for schools in New York and New Jersey.

David Halloran, the third candidate for the position, has been the high school principal for the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District since 2007. He previously served as the assistant principal at Johnstown High School for two years and taught social studies at Tamarac and Ballston Spa high schools.

Dr. Michel, who is also the district superintendent for the Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Board of Cooperative Education Services has been serving as interim superintendent in Fonda-Fultonville since the beginning of the 2012-13 school year.
