WADDINGTON – Its that time of year again.
The communitys annual Great Lighted Pumpkin Contest and Display will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Residents are invited to come out and display their pumpkins in the Town Square. As the pumpkins arrive, they are arranged into one of the largest lighted pumpkin displays in the north country.
For 26 years, Waddington has held the contest. Through the years, thousands of people have driven to Waddington to participate in the contest, organizer Nancy Putney said Wednesday.
We have seen a circus of different creations: snowmen, spiders, ghosts, dogs, deer, fish, and many more creations, Ms. Putney said. The talents and imagination of the local people are seen in the many faces of the pumpkins. Every year they come up with new ones.
Over 20 cash prizes will be awarded in categories including most unique, funniest, smallest and biggest.
The event is sponsored by the Waddington Chamber of Commerce.
We enjoy doing it and hope for the best year, Ms. Putney said. I want people to come to see what a beautiful job everyone has done. If somebody has got a pumpkin that they think is super, they dont have to enter the contest. He or she can just bring it so that everybody else can see. Its their night to shine.
