BRASHER FALLS - A 59-year-old Massena man suffered serious injuries Friday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle while he was westbound on state Route 11C in the town of Lawrence between the hamlets of North Lawrence and Brasher Falls.
Clifford M. Kip Haggett was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Tri-Town Rescue after he was found lying in the roadway approximately 75 to 100 yards from where the 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle came to rest in a wooded area 15 feet from the state highway.
He was treated for massive head trauma and a possible fractured neck. He was later airlifted by Lifenet to the Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, Vt.
St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Department deputies and investigators said they were seeking to determine if Mr. Haggett was ejected from his bike or jumped off after he lost control of his motorcycle.
The accident occurred at 3:45 p.m., and state Route 11C was closed from St. Lawrence Central School to the Hallahan Road just outside of North Lawrence until 7:30 p.m.
Deputies were assisted at the accident scene by Brasher-Winthrop Fire Department and United States Border Patrol agents.
Investigators said they were continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
