The St. Lawrence County Board of Elections has consolidated districts and changed a number of poll locations so residents might want to make sure they know where theyre going when they vote Nov. 6.
If anyone is questioning anything at all, please give us a call and well look up their election district, said Nicole R. Maxner, the deputy Republican commissioner at the Board of Elections.
The telephone number is 379-2202.
The changes reflect the redistricting decided by legislators in keeping with population changes and reduce the overall number of districts.
The biggest change was in Massena, which went from 14 to eight districts. Potsdam was cut from 12 to eight districts. Gouverneur lost two. Towns that lost one district each included Canton, Colton, Fine, Lawrence, Madrid, Norfolk, Oswegatchie, Russell and the city of Ogdensburg.
A lot of the districts were becoming too small, Ms. Maxner said. Its a big cost-saver. Our entire budget is charged back to the towns.
The number of election inspectors was also reduced from 408 to 355.
All registered voters received cards informing them of their polling place. Signs will be posted on the doors of former polling sites stating the Board of Elections telephone number or the new location.
