Louisville: Robert W. Wanke, 66 of Willard Road, died unexpectedly Sunday (October 28, 2012) at his home. Robert was born on September 10, 1946 in Columbus, OH, the son of Robert and Phyllis (Wright) Wanke. He attended Ohio State University and graduated from Eastern New Mexico College, where he earned a Physical Education Degree. He later attended St. Lawrence University and Ithaca College, where he furthered his Physical Education training and earned a degree in Drivers Education. Robert taught at Jefferson, Twin Rivers and Louisville Elementary Schools and Massena High School. He retired from Madison Elementary School in June 2006, after 31 years of dedicated service. Along with teaching Physical Education he also taught Drivers Education, working in both Massena and St. Lawrence School Districts for many summers. He has continued to teach Drivers Education through July 2012. He married Judith Kirkpatrick on November 11, 1972 in Phoenix, NY at the Congregational Church. Robert enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. This past year he traveled with his wife Judy in their fifth wheel camper in the southern part of the United States. Robert is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Judith, two sons Aaron R. of Pulaski, NY; Drew A. of Wellsboro, PA; a daughter, Ashley and Jeff Johnson of Massena, and a grandson Lincoln. He was predeceased by a brother Douglas, and his parents. At the family’s request memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral services for Robert will be held on Friday, (November 2, 2012) at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Massena with Rev. Heather Stierheim presiding. Interment will follow in Louisville Community Cemetery. Friends and family may be received on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.
