NORFOLK - The Norwood-Norfolk Central varsity girls soccer relayed a 1-0 halftime lead into a 4-2 decision over St. Lawrence Central in the opening game of the Section 10 Class C playoffs on Tuesday.
Emily LaRoe finished off a play set up by Megan Stevenson 22 minutes into the game for the only goal of the first half. LaRoe made it 2-0 just four minutes into the second half assisted by Alexis Sweet. The Lady Flyers eventually built a four-goal lead when Leah Palmer scored from Stevenson seven minutes later and Stevenson connected from LaRoe in the 23rd minute.
The Lady Larries made the game interesting with two quick goals as Morgan Villnave scored from Megan Snyder in the 24th minute and Jenna Kesner converted from Villnave in the 26th before the Lady Flyers were able to stave off the comeback.
Megan Plumb handled 10 shots backstopping the win while Haleigh Agans posted 11 saves for SLC which closed out the season at 1-13-1.
The Lady Flyers (7-8-1) will now get set to face top-seeded Canton (10-5-1) in the Class C semi-finals this evening at 6 p.m. at the SUNY Canton turf field. Tupper Lake faces Brushton-Moira in the other semi at Massenas Mike Nicholas Field starting at 5 p.m. The Class C final is slated for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Nicholas Field.
