P-H, M-W, C-P, E-K, Harrisville boys teams advance in Class D soccer


Defending champion Parishville-Hopkinton advanced past the first round of the Section 10 Class D boys soccer tournament along with Madrid-Waddington, Colton-Pierrepont, Edwards-Knox and Harrisville on Thursday.

P-H 4, Morristown 2: In Parishville, the host Panthers ran out to a 4-0 halftime lead before turning back the Green Rockets. They will now get set to take on top-seeded Lisbon this Saturday in the quarter-finals starting at 3 p.m.

Kyle Strader opened the scoring in the 14th minute assisted by Wyatt Snell. Logan Johns made it 2-0 just three minutes later with an unassisted goal before Jordan Dishaw scored back-to-back goals in the 27th and 38th minutes, both assisted by Snell, to push the lead to 4-0.

The Green Rockets got on the baord 15 minutes into the second half on a goal by Dakota Marshall that was set up by Dulmage. Ryan Volmer closed the gap to 4-2 with 13 minutes left.

Parker Meashaw handled four shots backstopping the win as the Panthers improved to 9-6-2 overall. Luke King made six saves for Morristown (6-7-2).

M-W 6, Hermon-DeKalb 0: In Madrid, the Yellowjackets generated three goals in each half and the duo of Zach Brock (4 saves) and T.J. Gagnon (8 saves) fielded the 12 shots they faced to backstop the shutout.

Jeff Mott anchored the balanced M-W offfense with two goals. Colin O’Bryan tallied a goal and assist. Randy Ball, Greg Thompson and Jacob Barney struck for the other goals while Bryan Jaquith, Kyle Bent and Austin Scott each logged solo assists as M-W improved to 10-6-2 heading into their quarter—final round matchup at second-seeded Heuvelton on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Brad Weller stopped 17 shots for the Green Demons (4-13).

C-P 3, Clifton-Fine 0: At Swift Field in South Colton, Gyle Dominy scored unassisted in the 12th minute then again in the 24th and the Colts never looked back in racing past the Eagles (1-14).

Andrew Harcourt closed out the scoring in the 26th minute assisted by Isaiah Johnson as the Colts improved to 11-5-1.

Craig Miller was counted on to make just one save backstopping the shutout while Matt Russell fielded 11 shots in the loss.

The Colts will now get set to host Harrisville on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Swift Field.

E-K 8, St. Regis Falls 2: In Russell, the Cougars built an early 2-0 lead then answered the first Saints goal by Louis Goodrow in the 18th minute with five straight goals over the next 25 minutes.

Chris Davison led the winning offense with three goals. Nic Davison added a pair of goals while Tyler Tresidder, Derek Cutway and Abe White each netted singletons and Ryan Gollinger logged a pair of assists.

Caleb Green struck for the other SRF goal midway through the second half.

In goal, Kaden Dandrow 9 (1 save) and Richard Finnerty (2 saves) shared duties for the Cougars (11-5-1) while Michael Smith handled 13 shots for the Saints (2-15-1).

E-K will now travel to third-seeded Chateaugay on Saturday for a 3 p.m. quarter-final round matchup.

Harrisville 5, Hammond 1: In the lone all-West Division matchup of the opening round, the host Pirates surged their way to a 4-1 halftime lead as Joe Butts led the winning effort with a pair of goals. Tim Fowler, Nathan Weaver and Nick Wier netted the other goals while Zane Mono made five saves working the crease for the win.

Tristan Simons broke through for the lone Hammond (2-14) goal while Darrin Bresett stopped 12 of the shots he faced in the losing cause.

The Pirates play C-P in South Colton on Saturday at 3 p.m.
