POTSDAM A SUNY Potsdam administrator will sit on the board responsible for establishing standards for New Yorks teachers.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Margaret E. Madden has been appointed by SUNYs Board of Regents to the state Professional Standards and Practices Board for Teaching.
I am honored to be able to serve on this board to advance collegiate programs in teacher preparation and promote professional development of teachers at all levels. High-quality instruction throughout levels from prekindergarten to graduate work in education is vital for creating a productive and informed citizenry of New York state, Ms. Madden said.
The 28-member board was established in 1998 to advise the Regents and the commissioner of education on matters related to teaching in New York state.
Members serve four-year staggered terms.
The board makes recommendations to the Regents regarding teacher training, certification, professional development, ethics, recruitment, retention and accreditation.
