CANTON - The majestic skills and speed of undefeated Ichabod Crane (19-0-1) and the opportunism of Hoosic Falls (16-5-0) produced victories for Section 2 over Section 10 Champions Ogdensburg Free Academy (8-5-4) and Canton Central (9-5-4) on Tuesday in New York State Boys Soccer action at SUNY Cantons turf field.
In Class B action the Riders from the Southern tip of Section 2 near the Hudson River blanked OFA 3-0 to lift their goal differential to 100-2. In Class C action the Panthers, playing the regionals for the first times since the early 1980s, broke a scoreless deadlock in 1:03 into sudden victory overtime.
Both teams will chase NYS Final Four berths on Saturday against Section 7 Champions in the Plattsburgh area.
CLASS B
Alex Neimann finished off a play set up by Richardo Cruz with just 52 seconds left in the first half and the Riders went on to add a pair of second-half goals to put away the Blue Devils. Seth Scarano made it 2-0 when he converted on a penalty kick in the 13th minute of the second half. Seven minutes later, Tyler Jabalanski sealed the win with a unassisted goal from 35 yards out.
Pierce Reilly made four saves backstopping the win while Jacob Sias handled 14 shots in the losing cause.
CLASS C
In the first game of the night at SUNY Canton, Chris LaCroix scored the overtime game-winner to lift Hoosick Falls past the Golden Bears.
Noah Chani handled 10 shots for the Panthers (16-5-0) while Scott Wight made four saves for the Bears.
CLASS D SEMIS
In the two Section 10 Class D boys soccer semi-finals played at the Potsdam Central turf field, Heuvelton edged Chateaugay 2-1 and Harrisville knocked off top-seeded Lisbon 1-0.
Heuvelton 2, Chateaugay 1: The St. Lawrence County Bulldogs built a 2-0 lead then held on for the win after giving up a late goal in the first game played at the Potsdam turf.
Aaron Cobb opened the scoring off an assist from Joe McDonell in the 30th minute. Dedrick Johnson made it 2-0 in the 13th minute of the second half assisted by Mike Guardino before Chad Stalter got Chateaugay on the baord with eight minutes left in regulation by finishing off a play set up by Tyler Martin.
Chris Power made five saves backstopping the win as Heuvelton improved to 13-3-2. Josh Trombley fielded 12 shots for Chateaugay (10-5-3).
Harrisville 1, Lisbon 0: In the nightcap, Joey Butts scored from Nick Weir with less than three minutes left in the first half and the Pirates (15-5) made it stand for the win over the top seeded Golden Knights (13-3-2).
Zane Mono made three saves working the crease for the shutout while Jim Robinson stopped nine shots in the losing cause.
The Section 10 Class D final between Heuvelton and Harrisville is slated for Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Potsdam Central turf.
