CHAZY - The Potsdam Central girls soccer team saw its 2012 season end in a 3-0 loss to Section 7 champion Plattsburgh High in the opening round of the New York State Class B playoffs on Tuesday at the Chazy Central field.
They were a very good team. They started eight seniors and they had a lot of skilled players, noted coach Joe Stark after the Lady Sandstoners closed out their season with an 11-7-1 record.
We were a pretty young team this year so winning the section was an accomplishment for this group and playing in the states is a great experience for the younger kids, he added.
Brooke Knight set up the first goal of the game by Hailey McLaughlin five minutes into the game then added a pair of second-half goals to spark the winning offense as the Lady Hornets improved to 12-4-2.
Jenny Tardelli stopped seven shots for Potsdam while Karlie Neale was credited with just one save working the crease for the shutout.
CLASS C OPENER
In a state Class C tournament opener stated at the Plattsburgh High School turf, Rachel Knapp scored the only goal of the game with less than 11 minutes left in regulation to lift Section 7 champion AuSable Valley (8-11) past Canton Central (12-6-1).
Katie Clemmer made 10 saves in the losing cause while Bryce Douglass fielded three shots for the shutout.
