SOUTH COLTON – Mrs. Cheryl L. Sabin, 64, of 317 Morgan Road, passed away early Thursday morning, November 8, 2012 at her home with her loving family at her side after a short illness.

Cheryl was born March 27, 1948 in Massena, the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Eileen B. Nicols Gibbs. She graduated from Massena High School in 1966 and later attended Nyack Missionary College. On December 18, 1971, she married James J. Sabin in Bombay with Justice Leon Richards, officiating.

Cheryl once worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Rochester before moving back to Massena going to work at SUNY Potsdam. She later owned and operated Cheryl’s Wedding World on East Orvis Street in Massena. Cheryl was currently working as a social worker and family advocate at the Parishville Head Start until becoming ill. She was attending South Colton Methodist Church and formerly attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Massena for many years. She participated in many Walk to Emmaeus events. Cheryl was also active in the Massena Rebekah Lodge, where was a former president. While a businesswoman in Massena, she was a member of the Business and Professional Women, where she was award the Businesswoman of the Year Award in 1988. Cheryl was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed doing all types of crafts, kayaking, shopping and spending time with the friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, James; her children, Jon Sabin of South Colton; and Julie Cote of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Stephanie Sabin-Newton and her fiancÚ, Josh Narrow, Isaiah and Abigail Grace Newton, all of Colton; her sister, Sharon King, Akwesasne; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Eunice Oakes on November 30, 2008; and two brothers, Richard Gibbs on June 4, 1950; and Eugene L. Gibbs on March 21, 2004.

Friends may call Saturday 3-6:00 at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM with Rev. Lee Sweeney, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
