U.S. Postal Service mail carriers will collect canned goods and nonperishable food donations left in mailboxes along their routes today, as a part of a food drive for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Postal customers are asked to leave food items in their mailboxes. Glass items cannot be accepted.
The donations will be trucked to the Food Bank of New York City, which serves more than 1.4 million New Yorkers through 1,000 organizations in the five boroughs of New York City, including hard-hit Staten Island and Queens.
