Massena man jailed following Sunday morning domestic dispute


ASSAULT - MASSENA - Village police charged John M. Gambaccini, 34, of 3 Depot St., Massena, with third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child Sunday morning following an investigation an investigation of a domestic dispute reported at 10:41 a.m.

Gambaccini allegedly returned home intoxicated, accused the mother of his two-year-old child of cheating on him and then pushed and grabbed at Veronica Gillespie. He also reported locked Ms. Gillespie in the apartment, punched her nine-year-old daughter in the head when she attempted to leave the apartment to get assistance and took control of the phones so Ms. Gillespie could not call police. He also reportedly grabbed her glasses and broken them during the argument.

Gambaccini was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Jerry P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,500 cash or $5,000.

Ms. Gillespie told police she had been home with her children sleeping when her intoxicated boyfriend returned to the residence Sunday and started making accusations about her behavior. She said the doors were locked. Gambaccini reportedly started banging on the door and threatened to kick in the door and break windows if Ms. Gilllespie didn’t let him in the residence.

She said Gambaccini had locked both doors as well as the deadbolt when he entered the apartment. She said that delayed her daughter’s effort to flee the apartment. “John punched her in the head as she was leaving,” Ms. Gillespie told police.
