Massena: Mrs. Elizabeth Boyer of Massena, NY passed away November 19, 2012 peacefully at her home. She was surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Betty was born on May 17, 1930 to James and Mae Steinburg of Ogdensburg, NY. She was the eldest of eight children and graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1948. On May 26, 1950 Betty married the love of her life, Henry (Mose) Boyer. She began working at an early age in her family store. She was an employee of the New York Telephone Company as an operator, therefore, utilizing her gift of gab. For many years, she also worked for the Massena Central School District in food services. Her strong work ethic continued throughout her adult life. Betty loved sharing time with family and friends. She enjoyed summers with her family on the St. Lawrence River, in Morristown, New York. Betty’s passion was cooking and baking. Following retirement, Betty enjoyed being a volunteer for Hospice and Meals on Wheels. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society. Her favorite pastimes were playing cards, golfing, and having lunch with her girlfriends. Together, Betty and Mose raised four children: Chris (Doug) Premo, Massena; Kathy (Michael) Cross, Essex Junction, Vermont; Greg (Mary Lou) Boyer, Plano, Texas; Debbie (FiancÚ, Kevin Mannix) Spelman, Rochester, New York. Betty was blessed with nine grandchildren: Kelley Premo, Cortney (Patrick) Deshaies, Kaitie (Keith) Walcott, Abbie Cross, Erika, Gregory, and Laura Boyer, Megan and Molly Spelman. Grandma Betty was blessed with one great-grandson, Grady Michael Walcott. Also surviving Betty Boyer are four sisters Shelia (Struan) Lemke, Liverpool NY; Donna (Robert) Newby, Marion NY; Chrissy Steinburg, Fairhaven NY; Rita (Roger) Buffet, Newark, NY and one brother Tommy Steinburg, Henrietta, NY. She was predeceased by one sister Joan (Steinburg) Brenno and one brother Jim Steinburg both of Ogdensburg, N.Y

Betty taught all of us how to be grateful for what we have, and contribute to the well being of others. She always had a smile on her face and enjoyed making people laugh. We will miss her wit, kindness, and endless love she showed her family and friends. Betty saw the positive in every life situation. Mom, we love you and will miss you until we meet again. Calling hours will be held Friday, (November 23, 2012) at Phillips Memorial Home from 4 to 7 pm Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, (November 24, 2012) at 11 am with Rev. James Shurtleff presiding . Entombment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park in Ogdensburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to your church, charity of one’s choice or Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, who took wonderful care of our Mom.
