October unemployment rates for 2012 announced Tuesday by the state Department of Labor show numbers in St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Lewis counties are up from last year.
Compared to October 2011, St. Lawrence Countys jobless rate for October 2012 jumped from 9.5 to 9.7 percent. Jefferson Countys rose from 9.1 to 9.4 percent and Lewis County from 8.6 to 8.7 percent.
In contrast to September 2012, Jefferson Countys rate climbed from 8.9 to 9.4 percent, Lewis County increased from 8.5 to 8.7 percent, and St. Lawrence County jumped from 9.5 to 9.7 percent.
The 52-county region in upstate New York also recorded an increase from October 2011, jumping from 7.4 to 8.0 percent. Over the same time period, New York states unemployment rate netted a slight increase from 8.0 to 8.3 percent.
