Oktoberfest run/walk raises $5,500

CANTON — Runners, walkers and children of all ages dressed in their favorite costumes and braved chilly temperatures Oct. 28 to attend the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest Costumed Prediction Run/Walk to raise money for United Helpers residents.

Major sponsors of the event were Kinney Drugs Foundation, Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers, Walmart and the Benefit Services GroupInc.Other sponsors include Renzi Foodservice, Ed-Med Federal Credit Union, The Bicknell Corporation, POMCO Group, Community Bank, SeaComm, Olympia Sports, and Carlisle, Carrothers & Clough P.C.

Dunkin’ Donuts (Potsdam), Price Chopper (Potsdam) and the Maplewood Campus (Canton) provided refreshments before and after the race. Goody bags were given to children who attended, along with toothbrushes donated by Dr. Stacey Howlett.

Biscuits were also available for those who brought dogs.

Participants were given the unique opportunity to make hula hoops at the event courtesy of WorkWell Investments.

Shaili Singh assisted with race logistics while Peak Sport Solutions calculated the timing/results of the race. The top three males and top three females were awarded prizes.

“Events like these truly require a team effort and support from our community to be successful,” said Lori Smithers, development director.“I would like to say thank you to everybody who participated this year and helped us to raise $5,500 for our residents.”

The 3rd Annual Oktoberfest Costumed Prediction Run/Walk will be held Oct. 27, 2013.
