James H. Darmody, 85, of Amherst, N.Y. passed away at home with his children after a brief illness.
He was born on June 8, 1927 in Chateaugay to Michael and Mary (Phillips) Darmody.
James was a proud US Navy veteran and passionate politician who served as Town of Lawrence Highway Superintendent and St. Lawrence County Legislator.
Mr. Darmody is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary M. Darmody of Buffalo; four children, Don Darmody of Chicago, Ill., Leah Darmody Travers of Syracuse, Patrick Darmody of San Diego, Calif., and Janice Darmody of Syracuse; seven grandchildren; five stepchildren; four step-grandchildren; siblings Irene Bilow of Windsor, N.Y., Rita Thomson of Chateaugay, and William Darmody of Syracuse; his first wife, Phyl Darmody of Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Leo Darmody.
Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 23 from 12 to 1:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in St. Patricks Church with Rev. John Looby officiating. Burial will take place at St. Patricks Cemetery, Chateaugay.
