Mrs. Theresa Elnora Lawrence, 97, of Potsdam passed away in the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena on November 24th. A private internment will be held in the spring of 2013 at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Sandy Creek.
Theresa is survived by two daughters, Ms. Theresa Joan Lawrence of Coral Gables, FL, and Mrs. Diana Lawrence Kurtz and her husband Sheldon Kurtz of Warren, NJ.
Theresa was born in Lacona, NY, on December 29, 1914, the youngest of nine children born to Delmont and Grace (Lashbrook) Nellis. She graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1932 and attended Clarkson College in Potsdam studying business.
Theresa married Ralph M. Lawrence on December 25, 1939, in Lacona, NY. The couple moved to Potsdam following Ralphs discharge from active naval duty at the close of WWII. Mr. Lawrence, one of the original four founding members of the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad, died October 17, 1993.
Prior to her retirement, Theresa was employed as an office manager, first for Eastern Petroleum, and later for the successor Augsburys Potsdam office. She was a life member of VEGA #98 Order of the Eastern Star in Potsdam, and an active Girl Scout leader for several years.
There will be no funeral service or calling hours. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 700, Potsdam, NY 13676.
