MASSENA - For the 12th year, Confirmation classes at Sacred Heart/St. Lawrence continue their commitment to reaching out to those in need.

The teens have kept faith with Nicaraguan villagers since 2000.By sponsoring an annual bake sale before Thanksgiving they have been able to send $1,000 each year to the village of El Sauce Leon, Nicaragua for a new home for a family. This sum is matched by an international organization based in Nicaragua.

This year they will send $3,000to be matched by an international organization based in that country. The house this year will be now include indoor plumbing. It will be a doubleunit to include the extended family such as grandparents as is their custom.

Teacher Paul McCarthy, looking for a project to link his classes with social outreach to the needy, had read a Food For the Poor pamphlet.Among the possible programs described was this home-building project.A photo of the house built and family so gifted is sent each year.
