MASSENA - The St. Lawrence Centre will be holding the grand opening for an expanded Shoe Dept. in early 201, as the store will become a Shoe Dept. Encore store.
This is Shoe Dept.s second expansion in our center and we are very excited about it, St. Lawrence Centre Marketing Manager Ronald J. Patnode said.
Mr. Patnode noted that in 2008 the store expanded from 5,546 square feet to 7,948 square feet. That expansion included the addition of a juniors department.
Shoe Show, Inc., Director of Visual Merchandising and Marketing Vicki Ayers said the transition to an Encore store will again bring an increased offering to St. Lawrence Centre.
Typically an Encore store is three times the size of a regular store. It will offer much more selection and brand presence, she said. When we expand our brand presence that will include some higher priced brands.
According to a release put out by St. Lawrence Centre, some of the brands expected to be carried in the new store include Eastland, Timberland, Tommy Hilfiger, Hush Puppies, Life Stride, Rocky boots, K-Swiss, Reebok, Nike, Keds, New Balance, Hi-Tec and Adidas.
The expansion of Encore will now provide 12,162 feet of retail space, Mr. Patnode said. Its my understanding that St. Lawrence Centre will now have the largest shoe store in Northern New York.
Mr. Patnode said the newly expanded store will be located in the former Hacketts space located adjacent to center court. C&M Sales, the store currently located there, has temporarily moved next to Sears and will again be relocating to the former Shoe Dept. space once that becomes available.
This has been months in the works, he said. It was worked out between our leasing team, Spinoso Real Estate and Shoe Show, which is their parent company.
Mr. Patnode said Shoe Dept. Encore will take ownership of the former Hacketts space on Saturday, but hes not expecting work on the new store to begin right away.
With the holiday season here, I dont expect work to begin until January, he said, adding an opening is planned for early 2013.
It will be a nice looking store, Mr. Patnode said. Its definitely in a prime location.
Mr. Patnode said the expansion shows that despite the tough economic climate people are still shopping.
Certainly shoes are popular, he said. Shoe Dept. must be pleased with sales. This is their second expansion, so something must be working for them.
Shoe Show, Inc., has 1,115 stores located in 36 states. Other stores in the company include Shoe Show, Shoebilee and Burlington Shoes.
