POTSDAM - Stringing three goals after Canton opened the scoring, Potsdam claimed a fast-paced 3-2 season-opening victory in New York State Hockey action on Saturday afternoon. Blake Orsoz opened the scoring for the Lady Bears who received a superb 33-save performance by Elizabeth Burke.
The Stoners answered with second period goals by Megan Plumb and Ali Miller and a third period tally by Kailey Grant. Cantons Tayler Marcellus closed out the scoring with four minutes to play and Ali Compo held serve completing a 21-save effort for Potsdam.
In Boys Hockey action Massena dropped a 2-1 decision to Fairport in the consolation game of the West Genessee Tournament and The Thousand Islanders-Alexandria Islanders blanked Tupper Lake 4-0.
Islanders 4 - Tupper Lake 0: Nick McCabe and Shane Sheppard each delivered one goal and one assist and Ryan Charlebois and Evan Deer scored singletons as the Islanders completed a 2-0 weekend.
Cole Jacobs handled 12 shots for the shutout and Tupper Lake netminder Marcus Richer finished with 35 saves.
